जंगल विदा हो गये हैं, लाखों वृक्ष प्रतिदिन काटे जा रहे हैं। अभी वैज्ञानिक चेता रहे हैं लेकिन कोई भी उन्हें सुनने को तैयार नहीं है कि यदि इस पृथ्वी के सारे वृक्ष विदा हो जायें, मनुष्य जीवित नहीं रह सकता। हम पर्यावरण के साथ एक गहन लेन-देन की स्थिति में हैं। मनुष्य श्वास में ऑक्सीजन लेता है और कार्बनडाइऑक्साइड छोड़ता है। वृक्ष कार्बन-डाई-ऑक्साइड लेते हैं और ऑक्सीजन छोड़ते हैं। न तुम वृक्षों के बिना जी सकते हो, न वृक्ष तुम्हारे बिना। यह एक सीधा उदाहरण है अन्यथा जीवन और भी हजार तरह से जुड़ा हुआ है। क्योंकि हजारों वृक्ष कट गये हैं, वातावरण में इतनी कार्बनडाईऑक्साइड इक्ट्ठी हो गयी है कि इसने पूरी पृथ्वी का तापमान चार डिग्री बढ़ा दिया है।

 

तुम्हारे लिए यह ज्यादा महत्वपूर्ण नहीं! चार डिग्री। लेकिन यह कम महत्वपूर्ण नहीं। इस शताब्दी के अन्त तक, यह तापमान इतनी बर्फ पिघलने को काफी होगा। जिससे महासागरों का तल चार फीट ऊंचा उठ जाएगा। एक डिग्री तापमान के बढ़ने का मतलब है कि सागरों का तल एक फुट ऊंचा उठना। इसलिए जो शहर महासागरों के किनारों पर हैं और सारे बड़े-बड़े शहर उन किनारों पर हैं वे पानी से भर जायेंगे।

 

यदि तापमान बढ़ता रहा जिसकी पूरी संभावना है क्योंकि अभी तो कोई नहीं सुन रहा है... बिना किसी समझ के वृक्ष काटे जा रहे हैं. व्यर्थ की चीजों के लिए, घटिया अखबारों के लिए। तुम्हें अखबार चाहिए और तुम जीवन को नष्ट कर रहे हो। इस बात की संभावना है कि यदि हिमालय की सारी बर्फ पिघलनी शुरू हो जाये जैसा अतीत में नहीं हुआ है, तो महासागरों का तल बीस फुट ऊंचा उठ जायेगा और लगभग पूरी पृथ्वी को डूबो देगा। तुम्हारे सारे शहर नष्ट हो जायेंगे।

 

मुम्बई, कलकत्ता, न्यूयॉर्क, लंदन और सैन फ्रान्सिसको। शायद कुछ आदिम लोग जो पहाड़ों पर रहते हैं- बच जायें।

सभी समस्याएं सरल हैं

-------------

 

एक तरह से यह संकट स्थिति अच्छी है क्योंकि वह लोगों को चुनाव करने के लिए बाध्य करेगी, तुम मरना चाहते हो या तुम एक नया जीवन जीना चाहते हो।

 

क्षतिपूर्ति हो सकती है तो फिर अतीत के प्रति मर जाओ, तुम्हें अतीत विरासत की भांति जो भी मिला है उसे त्याग दो और नई शुरूआत करो। मानो तुम इस धरती पर पहली बार अवतरित हुए हो। प्रकृति के साथ दुश्मन की तरह नहीं, दोस्त की तरह काम करना शुरू करो, और पर्यावरण फिर से एक सात्तय एकता की भांति काम करने लगेगा।

 

इस धरती को और हरा-भरा बनाना कठिन नहीं है। यदि बहुत सारे वृक्षों को काटा गया है तो और बहुत से वृक्ष लगाये भी जा सकते हैं। और वैज्ञानिक सहयोग से भी बड़ी तेजी से बढ़ सकते हैं और उन पर ज्यादा घने पत्ते आ सकते हैं। नदियों में भिन्न-भिन्न प्रकार के अवरोध खड़े किये जा सकते हैं जिससे कि देशों का बाढ़ से नुकसान न हो। वही पानी कई गुना अधिक बिजली पैदा कर सकता है और हजारों गांवों की अंधियारी रातें रोशन कर सकता है, सर्द शीतकाल में उष्मा दे सकता है।

 

बात सरल है। सभी समस्याएं सरल हैं। लेकिन इन समस्याओं के मौलिक आधार गड़बड़ हैं। मैं सारी दुनिया को यह बताना चाहता हूं कि अगर तुम एक होने के लिए तैयार नहीं हो तो इस ग्रह में विलीन होने को तैयार हो जाओ।

खूबसूरत पृथ्वी

वैज्ञानिकों ने हिसाब लगाया है कि करीब पचास हजार ऐसे ग्रह हैं जहां जीवन का अस्तित्व है। रात में जब तुम तारे देखते हो, वे तारे नहीं हैं, वे सूर्य हैं। लेकिन वे इतने दूर हैं कि चमकते तारे लगते हैं। तुम्हारा सूर्य बहुत औसत दर्जे का है। यह पृथ्वी की तुलना में बहुत बड़ा है, लेकिन दूसरे सौरमंडलों की तुलना में, दूसरे सूर्य-और अब तक बीस लाख सौरमंडल खोज लिए है- हमारा सूर्य बस औसत दर्जे का है। वे हमारे इस सूर्य से लाखों गुना बड़े हैं, और उनके अपने ग्रह हैं। लेकिन कोई भी वैज्ञानिक इस बात का पता लगाने में समर्थ नहीं हुआ कि पूरे ब्रह्मांड में कहीं चेतना का अस्तित्व है या नहीं और निश्चित ही ऐसा कोई निशान नहीं है कि गौतम बुद्ध, लाओत्से, च्वांगत्सु, बोधिधर्मा जैसे लोग हैं- ऐसे लोग जिन्होंने अपने सत्य को पा लिया है। बगैर चेतना के यह संभव नहीं है।

 

यह पृथ्वी पूरे ब्रह्मांड में समृद्धतम है, और यह ब्रह्मांड अनंत है। इसकी कोई सीमा नहीं है। जीवन सिर्फ यहां इतने सुंदरतम ढंग से प्रकट हुआ जहां कि चेतना है। और चेतना ने ऐसी विधियां विकसित की हैं कि वह शिखर तक पहुंच सके, चेतना के एवरेस्ट पर।

 

चीजें ऐसी जगह आ गई हैं कि पूरी मानवता को जगाया जा सकता है। और यदि लोग चर्च, सिनागॉग जाना बंद कर दें, स्वयं को अमरीकन, रशियन, भारतीय कहना बंद कर दें... यदि वे घोषणा कर दें कि यह पूरी पृथ्वी एक है, और सारी पृथ्वी वैज्ञानिकों को संसाधन उपलब्ध करवाएगी ताकि वे बेहतर जीवन के लिए कार्य कर सकें, अधिक जीवन, अधिक चेतना, बेहतर चेतना, हम सारी दुनिया इतने बुद्धपुरूषों से भर सकते हैं कि फूल भी उतनी खुशबू नहीं दे पाएंगे।

 

आज हम धरती को नष्ट कर रहे हैं, जो इस विशाल ब्रह्मांड में एकमात्र स्थान है, एक छोटा-सा ग्रह जो चेतना के सर्वोच्च शिखर पर आ गया है। यह केवल मानवता के प्रति ही अपराध नहीं है बल्कि पूरे ब्रह्मांड के प्रति अपराध है। - ओशो फ्रॉम डेथ टू डेथलेसनेस

The forests are gone, millions of trees are being cut down every day. Scientists are warning us, but no one is ready to listen that if all the trees on this earth disappear, humanity cannot survive. We are in a deep reciprocal relationship with the environment. Humans breathe in oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. Trees take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen. You cannot live without trees, nor can trees live without you. This is a simple example; otherwise, life is connected in thousands of other ways. Because thousands of trees have been cut down, so much carbon dioxide has accumulated in the atmosphere that it has increased the temperature of the entire earth by four degrees.

 

This may not seem very important to you! Four degrees. But it is not insignificant. By the end of this century, this temperature will be enough to melt so much ice that the sea level will rise by four feet. A one-degree increase in temperature means the sea level rises by one foot. Therefore, the cities that are on the shores of the oceans, and all the big cities are on those shores, will be flooded.

 

If the temperature continues to rise, which is entirely possible because no one is listening right now... trees are being cut down without any understanding, for useless things, for cheap newspapers. You need newspapers, and you are destroying life. There is a possibility that if all the ice in the Himalayas starts melting, which has not happened in the past, then the sea level will rise by twenty feet and will submerge almost the entire earth. All your cities will be destroyed.

 

Mumbai, Calcutta, New York, London, and San Francisco. Perhaps some primitive people who live in the mountains will survive.

All problems are simple.

In a way, this crisis situation is good because it will force people to make a choice: do you want to die, or do you want to live a new life?

 

If there can be compensation, then die to the past, renounce whatever you have inherited from the past, and start anew. As if you have descended upon this earth for the first time. Begin to work with nature not as an enemy, but as a friend, and the environment will again begin to function as a harmonious whole.

 

It is not difficult to make this earth greener. If many trees have been cut down, many more trees can be planted. And with scientific cooperation, they can grow very quickly and have denser foliage. Different kinds of dams can be built on rivers so that countries are not damaged by floods. That same water can generate many times more electricity and illuminate the dark nights of thousands of villages, providing warmth in the cold winter months.

 

The matter is simple. All problems are simple. But the fundamental basis of these problems is flawed. I want to tell the whole world that if you are not ready to become one, then be ready to be annihilated from this planet.

Beautiful Earth

Scientists have calculated that there are approximately fifty thousand planets where life exists. When you look at the stars at night, they are not stars; they are suns. But they are so far away that they appear as twinkling stars. Your sun is very average. It is much larger than the Earth, but compared to other solar systems—and two million solar systems have been discovered so far—our sun is just average. They are millions of times larger than our sun, and they have their own planets. But no scientist has been able to discover whether consciousness exists anywhere else in the entire universe, and certainly there is no trace of people like Gautama Buddha, Lao Tzu, Chuang Tzu, Bodhidharma—people who have attained their truth. Without consciousness, this is not possible.

 

This Earth is the richest place in the entire universe, and this universe is infinite. It has no boundaries. Life has manifested itself here in the most beautiful way, where consciousness exists. And consciousness has developed methods to reach its peak, the Everest of consciousness.

 

Things have come to such a point that the whole of humanity can be awakened. And if people stop going to churches and synagogues, stop calling themselves Americans, Russians, Indians... if they declare that this entire Earth is one, and the whole Earth provides resources to scientists so that they can work for a better life, more life, more consciousness, better consciousness, we can fill the whole world with so many enlightened beings that even flowers will not be able to give off such fragrance.

 

Today we are destroying the Earth, which is the only place in this vast universe, a small planet that has reached the highest peak of consciousness. This is not only a crime against humanity but a crime against the entire universe. - Osho: From Death to Deathlessness
